Dance at Bougival

The impressionist painters depict scenes of social life in Paris in the late nineteenth century. Dance at Bougival is set in the homonymous Parisian neighborhood on the Seine outside Paris the famous for its outdoor cafes.

Through the bright and seductive colors Renoir highlights the sense of pleasure that the couple tries to dance.

The work depicts two of Renoir's friends, Paul Auguste Llhote and Suzanne Valadon a French artist model and a painter herself. 
Dance at Bougival was painted in 1883 and is currently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

I pittori impressionisti raffiguravano scene di vita mondana nella Parigi di fine ottocento. Ballo a Bougival è ambientato nell’omonimo quartiere parigino, ai margini della Senna, famoso per i suoi caffè all’aperto. 
Attraverso i colori vivaci e seducenti Renoir evidenzia il senso di piacere che la coppia prova nella danza. 

Il dipinto raffigura due amici di Renoir: Paul Auguste Llhote e Suzanne Valadon un'artista francesa prima modella poi pittrice.
Ballo a Bougival fu dipinto nel 1883 ed è conservato nel Museum of Fine Arts di Boston, Massachusetts, Usa.

Dance in the City

In 1883, Renoir painted Dance in the city and Dance in the country.  

These two paintings were created during a period in which Renoir was searching new stylistic media and subject matter. They mark the transition to the painter's final great period of creativity.
Paul Lhote, a friend of the artist, served as the model for the male dancer in both pictures but the figures of the women and the treatment of the background are different. In this painting the female dancer is (as Dance at Bougival)  the 17-year-old Suzanne Valadon, who later became a painter herself.  The elegant young woman is pictured with her partner in a room in which the chic decor is emphasized by the pillar and the large potted plants. 

Dance in the City is in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. 

Nel 1883 Renoir dipinse Ballo in città  e Ballo in campagna. 
Questi due dipinti furono realizzati nel periodo in cui Renoir cercava nuovi stili e nuovi soggetti e segnano il passaggio al grande periodo finale della sua creatività.
L'amico del pittore Paul Lhote è il modello ballerino per entrambe le immagini mentre la figura femminile e l'ambiente sullo sfondo sono diversi. 
In Ballo in città la giovane donna, come in Danza a Bougival, è la diciassettenne Suzanne Valadon, che in seguito divenne ella stessa pittrice. I due ballerini sono dipinti in un' ambiente elegante e sullo sfondo si distingue un pilastro e le piante in vaso. 
Ballo in città è conservato al Musée d'Orsay di Parigi.

Dance in the Country

In Dance in the country the painting depicts a couple dancing under a chestnut tree. The male was Paul Lhôte and the lady was Aline Charigot, who later became the wife of the painter in 1890. Both figures are painted life-size and occupy almost the entire painting. 

We can see in the background on the right a table and a hat on the ground. The woman holds a fan in her right hand and displays a smiling face and looks towards the viewer.
The scene has bright and cheerful atmosphere, and for women's clothes Renoir used warm colors (yellow gloves, red hat).

Dance in the Country is currently kept at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

In Ballo in Campagna Renoir raffigura una coppia che balla sotto un albero di castagno.
Il ballerino è sempre l'amico Paul Lhote mente la giovane donna è Aline Charigot che in seguito divenne la moglie del pittore. Entrambe le figure sono dipinte a grandezza naturale e occupano quasi tutta la pittura. Sullo sfondo a destra un tavolo e sul davanti un cappello a terra. La donna tiene un ventaglio nella mano destra e guarda con un volto sorridente verso lo spettatore.
La scena evoca un'atmosfera luminosa ed allegra con toni caldi resi anche dal colore del vestito della donna (guanti gialli, cappello rosso).
Ballo in Campagna è attualmente conservato presso il Museo d'Orsay di Parigi.
