From The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady by Edith Holden (the book I'll never stop to enjoy it!), I read the Intimations of Immortality a William Wordswoth poem, an author who I admire, whose poetry gives me emotions and sensations.

'The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady', Edith Holden

William Wordsworth published in 1807 the Poems in Two Volumes. They contaied the famous Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood ("Ode: insights of immortality) written in 1804. 

Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth on April 7, 1770. He is considered like Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the founder of Romanticism and Naturalism, thanks to the publication in 1798 of Lyrical Ballads (Lyrical Ballads), the first manifesto of the movement in England. The Lake District was an important place for the Lake Poets, a group of early 19th-century writers that included William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The nature was Wordsworth greatest source of inspiration to escape from reality and became the source of his life. His conception of poetry resulting from the merger of the inner world of the poet with the external one. In 1843 Wordsworth was awarded the title of Poet laureate.

The Diary of Edith Holden is a special book for me. It was a gift by my mom when I was a ten years old. It has always been one of my favorite texts, probably my first approach to English literature. Even today, despite the past several years, I continue to enjoy its wonderful reading!

Dal libro che non smetterò mai di leggere, Il diario di Campagna di una signora inglese del primo novecento scritto da Edith Holden nel 1906, ho preso questo brano tratto dall'Ode all'Immortalità di William Wordswoth, un autore che ammiro tantissimo, le cui opere suscitano in me emozioni e sensazioni meravigliose.

William Wordsworth, Intimations of Immortality, 1807

William Wordsworth  nel 1807  pubblicò Poems in Two Volumes, contenente tra l'altro la famosa Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of early Childhood ("Ode: intuizioni di immortalità) scritta nel 1804.

Wordsworth, nato a Cockermouth, il 7 aprile 1770, è considerato assieme a Samuel Taylor Coleridge il fondatore del Romanticismo e soprattutto del naturalismo inglese, grazie alla pubblicazione nel 1798 delle Lyrical Ballads (Ballate liriche), primo vero e proprio manifesto del movimento in Inghilterra. Le ispirazioni naturalistiche delle sue opere, tratte sopratutto dal Lake District, gli diedero l'appellativo di Lake Poets. La natura fu la sua più grande fonte di ispirazione: da fuga dalla realtà diventò fonte della sua vita. La sua concezione della poesia risulta dalla fusione del mondo interiore del poeta con quello esterno. Nel 1843 Wordsworth fu insignito del titolo di poeta laureato.
