John Aikin nacque il 15 gennaio del 1747. Fu medico e scrittore inglese. Insieme alla sorella Anna Laetitia Barbauld scrisse tra il 1792 e il 1796 Evenings at Home una raccolta in sei volumi di storie favole, drammi, poesie e dialoghi in favore dell'apprendimento della scienza attraverso le attività pratiche come ad esempio quella della preparazione del Tè.  In a "A Lecture Tea" il maestro insegna all'alunno che fare il tè è una operazione di chimica e con dettaglio spiega tutto ciò che accade per tale preparazione! E' davvero una spiegazione interessante (link)!! Evenings at home affermava che la riforma sociale e politica doveva cominciare in famiglia poiché le famiglie erano responsabili del progresso o del regresso della nazione.

John Aikin was born on January 15, 1747. He was an English doctor and writer. With his sister  Anna Laetitia Barbauld wrote Evenings at Home or The Juvenile Budget Opened (1792–1796) a collection of six volumes of stories fables, dramas, poems, and dialogues that encourage learning science through hands-on activities (in a "A Tea Lecture" the child learns that tea-making is "properly an operation of chemistry" and lessons on evaporation, and condensation follow (link)!!. Evenings at Home makes the claim that social and political reform must begin in the famil and that the families are responsible for the nation's progress or regress.
